I don’t know about you all, but movie and TV continuity errors get to me. It really throws me, and it doesn’t even have to affect the storyline. A character’s clothing changing without a scene change, an item moving, an object that shouldn’t be visible, etc. Since it bothers me so, I’ve started noticing them more often. I’m sure you can’t wait to see all the little things I’ve noticed, so I picked some I thought were pretty good. Why don’t we count down to my favorite?
NUMBER 10: Cowboys on the Pearl?
In the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the black pearl, you can catch a glimpse of one of the cast members in the background! THIS is one of those storyline-disrupting mistakes. As much fun as it would have been to see Captain Jack Sparrow boss around a cowboy… It just doesn’t make any sense. Someone must not have heard the loud call of “ACTION!”
NUMBER 9: Premature Magic?
All aboard the Hogwarts express as we move on to our next image! Now, call me crazy for counting this. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone there is a scene in the Great Hall where Harry switches sides of the table. I know, Wizards, Witches… It’s explainable, but NO. This scene is after our good friend Harry is sorted into Gryffindor. My conclusion, this is an error as they have not learned to control and use their magical skills at this point.
NUMBER 8: No need to call for repair here.
My Spidey senses are tingling! In the movie Spider-man (2002) where the lovely Mary Jane finds herself in a dark ally surrounded by four men. When they attempt to mug her, Spider-man comes to her rescue! Spidey throws two of the goons through the windows to the left and right of Mary Jane. The scene then cuts away and then returns to MJ, where you can notice in the split second the widows are no longer broken!! Who knew that there were self-repair windows in 2002?! WHERE HAVE I BEEN?!
Here is the scene so you can watch yourself:
Number 7: Now you see it, now you don’t!
In a galaxy far, far away, we arrive at our next error! Now, I know there are many mistakes I could have chosen from the entire franchise I picked this one because I think it’s silly. In this scene, Obi-Wan presents young Luke Skywalker with his father’s lightsaber. During the exchange, there is a coat or fabric of some kind hung behind the young Jedi. In the concluding parts of the scene, once Luke activates his lightsaber, the coat vanishes! I’m going to assume because of green screen…. I MEAN THE FORCE!
NUMBER 6: And it’s longer?
We are off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of HAIR GROWTH! In The Wizard of Oz, throughout the movie you can see that Dorothy’s trademark pigtails, become significantly longer and also shorter. This can actually be explained! The 1939 film took quite a while to film, along with having to re-film certain scenes at the end of filming and splicing them in. The result is the length of Dorothy’s pigtails to appear longer and shorter through the film!
Number 5: Left… no right!
Even our favorite ANTI- Hero can’t get it right! In a scene from Deadpool, our main character starts by getting a little… okay, A LOT roughed up. He even gets his left hand cut clean off! **Spoiler alert ** You find out later that he can regenerate his limbs. Though this is a part of his character, it doesn’t happen very quickly. Hence, in this scene, when Deadpool gets thrown off the bridge, if you look closely, you’ll notice that his opposite hand is severed.
Number 4: Shots are not the only thing missed.
We all knew their aim was terrible, but this puts the cherry on top. Now this one isn’t as much of a continuity error as it is hilarious to me. In Starwars: A New Hope, you can see one of the stormtroopers bonk his head in the doorway! This wasn’t a CGI mistake or anything, either. In an article on Heat Vision, they interviewed the actor to get an idea of what happened.
Actor Laurie Goode tells Heat Vision, “On the second day of filming, I developed an upset stomach. By mid-morning I had paid three to four visits to the loo. Having re-dressed myself and returned to the set, I felt the need to rush back to the gents’ toilets, but I was placed in [the] shot. On about the fourth take, as I shuffled along, I felt my stomach rumbling, and “bang,” I hit my head! ” Goode didn’t think the frame was wide enough for him to be seen.

Number 3: The Magic Salon
We all love a good Game Of Thrones error, and we know that the series is full of them, so I picked my favorites. In this scene, Daenerys is riding horseback next to John Snow. She turns her head to John as he is speaking, and you can see her braid pattern. The scene flashes to the crowd of people beside them, and then back to Daenerys. She turns her head once more as one of her dragons swoops down and flys by them. If you look at the back of her head, her braid pattern is now completely different. Being a natural brunette who chooses to be blonde, I wish my hair could change that quick! Follow the link below to see the scene.
Number 2: The One With the Moving Scar.
This one may be a low blow, but the error is still there. In Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Frodo acquires a pretty nice scar along his jawline. If you can manage to keep your eyes clear of tears, you can notice the scar changes to the other side of his face later in the scene. Most would not notice due to being emotional from what is going on. Maybe I am heartless for noticing, and maybe I just love mistakes!
Number 1: Isn’t Something Missing?
Last but certainly not least, my current favorite. Melisandre, also known as “the Red Woman,” is a red priestess who has the power of prophecy and other claimed power. In all of the other scenes, but the one above, Melisandre is seen wearing a large ruby necklace.
This gorgeous piece of jewelry is not only for show; it contains magic. Melisandre is around 400 years old. The ruby necklace contains the magic that conceals her aging physique. That right there is why this is a continuity error. In theory, if she is not wearing the necklace, she should then portray her 400-year-old self, and not the beautiful young image the magic causes you to see.
That concludes 10 of my favorite movie and TV continuity errors. I hope you enjoyed it! Feel free to share with us some of YOUR favorite errors you have found in movies or shows in the comments below!
